2020 Meeting FAQ’s

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SID ANNUAL MEETING VIRTUAL CONFERENCE

Q: What is the status of the rescheduled Annual Meeting? Is the virtual meeting replacing the in-person meeting?

A: Due to the rapid escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic, on April 1 the SID Leadership made the decision to present select segments of the meeting program in a series of SID Virtual Annual Meeting sessions. The in-person meeting will be replaced by Virtual Meetings on May 13-16.

Q: Do I need to pay a registration fee to view the presentations in the virtual meeting?

A: Access to SID Virtual Annual Meeting will be made freely available. A link to a free registration site is available now.

Information regarding registration for the SID Virtual Annual Meeting will be communicated as soon as possible.

Q: What types of presentations will be featured in the Virtual Meetings?

A: The SID Virtual Annual Meeting will feature four types of presentations: Named Lectures, Plenary Talks, State-of-the-Art Plenary Lectures, and Concurrent Minisymposia.

Note: Poster sessions, and ePoster sessions will not be included in the virtual program.

Session and presentation titles will be announced by May 11, 2020

State-of-the-Art Plenary Sessions. These sessions will feature three presentations (30 minutes each). Each presentation will be followed by a brief period for questions.

Concurrent Minisymposia. These 16 sessions will feature approximately 200 abstract presentations (12 minutes each). Topics will span the full spectrum of skin biology research, including genomics, tumor microenvironment, inflammation, immunology, drug discovery, therapeutics, photobiology, immunotherapy, biomarkers, and cutaneous oncology.

Q: Will the sessions be available after the virtual meeting?

A: Yes. Sessions will be available for viewing on demand after the virtual meeting has ended until May  31, 2020.

Q: When will the abstracts of the virtual meeting presentations be made available?

A: The titles of the abstract presentations in SID Virtual Annual Meeting I will be posted online on May 11. The pre-recorded presentations submitted will be posted beginning May 13.

VIRTUAL MEETING REGISTRATION

Cancellations and Refunds. All current meeting registrants are eligible to receive a full refund for the in-person meeting. There is also an option for you to donate your fees back to the SID.

Q: Do I need to register to view the Virtual Meetings?

A: Access to SID Virtual Annual Meeting will be made freely available.

ANNUAL MEETING HOUSING AND TRAVEL

Individual Hotel Reservation Cancellations. Any reservation booked directly with the Westin Kierland (via link on the SID Annual Meeting website), will be cancelled automatically without penalty. Registrants who booked housing through other sources or directly with hotels must cancel their own reservations.

Q: I have a reservation for air travel to Scottsdale for the original May 13-16 Annual Meeting. Can I cancel my reservation?

A: You should contact your carrier directly and follow their guidelines regarding the cancellation of flights. Many airlines are waiving cancellation/change fees for flights booked between March 1, 2020 and April 30, 2020.

ANNUAL MEETING PRESENTERS

Presentation Status. Invited speakers will be contacted by email and asked to confirm their availability to participate in the Virtual Meetings. Abstract presenters will be contacted by email with more information about presentation and withdrawal options.

Q: I was scheduled to present my abstract in a poster session or minisymposium at the original SID Annual Meeting, but I withdrew my abstract when I thought the meeting was cancelled. If I am able to participate in the Virtual Meeting, can I reinstate and present my abstract?

A: Yes. You can send a written request to abstracts@sidnet.org to request reinstatement. Please include the abstract Final ID in your request.

Q: The Call for Abstracts stated that regular abstracts would be published online in April and now will the abstracts still be published on those dates?

No. Abstracts will now be published in a supplement to ship with the July Issue of the JID.

Questions about abstract release dates can be sent to abstracts@sidnet.org.

Q: SID Annual Meeting policy prohibits the presentation of abstract data that have already been published. I submitted a manuscript based on my abstract data that was accepted and scheduled for publication in a journal on or after my original date of publication. If the paper is published before the rescheduled Annual Meeting takes place, am I still permitted to present the abstract data at the meeting?

Yes. Due to extenuating circumstances, the SID is exempting presenters from this prohibition. You may present your work in the Virtual Meeting even if your manuscript has been published prior to the presentation date.

Q: I was selected to give an Oral presentation in a Concurrent Mini-Symposium. How do I submit my presentation?

You can view easy instructional videos here.

ANNUAL MEETING EXHIBITORS

Cancellations and Refunds. All current exhibitors are eligible to receive a full refund of booth rental fees.

Q: I am currently scheduled to exhibit at the Annual Meeting. What do I need to do?

A: You may request a full refund by sending an e-mail to flanagan@sidnet.org. Refund requests must be received within 30 days. All refund requests will be processed within 45 days. All cancellation fees will be waived.
